THEIR IMPORTANCE IN SOCIETY
 1. CONNECTING BETWEEN A MEDIUM

Many problems can be settled when a journalists publish it in a newspapers such as no water in certain places. The government or the public also have a chance to give their opinions to journalists about certain issues such as the increasing of crude oil.
 NEWS
News is new information or current events. News is reported by newspapers, television and radio programs, Web sites, RSS feeds and wire services. News reporting is a type of journalism, typically written or broadcast in news style. Most news is investigated and presented by journalists or reporters and often distributed via news agencies. If the content of news is significant enough, it eventually becomes history.
To be considered newsworthy, an event usually must have broad interest due to one or more news values:
Ø  Sales (how much revenue can be generated?)
Ø  Effect (how many people were, are or will be affected?)
Ø  Timeliness (did the event occur very recently?)
Ø  Revelation (is there significant new information, previously unknown?)
Ø  Proximity (was the event nearby geographically?)
Ø  Oddity (was the event highly unusual?)
Ø  Entertainment (does it make for a fun story?)
Ø  Celebrity (was anyone famous involved?)
News items and journalism can be divided in various ways, although there are gray areas. Distinctions include between hard news which is more serious and timely topics and soft news which is usually lighter topics breaking news, most immediate, news analysis and enterprise or investigative reporting.
News coverage traditionally begins with the "five W's and H"—who, what, where, when, why and how. Hard news are usually begin with an inverted pyramid style of writing where usually the write up start with a most important details which is the summary lead, follow by back up facts and then the supporting points and last but not least, is the endings. Soft news is usually started with the opposite of the inverted pyramid style of writing.
In simple word, news mean now, so valuable and information that people eagerly want.

IT’S (NEWS) RELATION WITH A JOURNALIST
News and journalists cannot be separate because news need journalists to delivering it to the society and journalist need news to write in a newspapers and do their job.Everybody knows, journalists work is to write news so they really need a news. Without news reporter is nothing and newspapers cannot be publish or sell. Society also knows nothing about the things that happen around the world.
Since decades ago, journalist has been write news for the society. Any news that has been wrote by a journalist give a major impact to the society. News and journalist is so important because either news or even a journalist, without one of them, we will be living in the world of nothing because it is the medium for us the society to rely on.
My point of view
In my point of view, journalist comes with the complete package of physical and mental.  To be a journalist, that person need to have an energetic in their physical and as well as intelligent with their brain. It means that, the spirit to become a good journalist comes from body, mind and soul. First and foremost, the body is the physical nature of the jobs. Definitely, the journalists have to be fast for running around, than chasing the sources especially the prominence people, and all the body part such as an eye must be sharp to see what is right and wrong actions. It calls for physical and mental fitness. Proper exercises, good eating and other habits cannot be overlooked. Those who are wanting on these counts are likely to have cause for regret at some stage of their life and careers.
A part from that, the journalist should have high self confidence. It is part of the “you in journalism” that each and every practitioner will have the self confidence to stand up and be counted. Self-confidence comes, not only from knowing clearly what one wants to do in life, but the manner in which it is to be done. It is not just about the skills and knowledge but also attitude in wanting to serve the greater cause and make a difference.
Besides that, the journalists can be call as the change agents in their society. If they play their role in a way to expose any issues, the community will turn to the issues and talk about it. For instance, the issues of baby dumping, basically it is not a new issues but if the journalists keep play the sentiment, it will be the big issues and the new act maybe established to punish the offenders.
Scholar’s definition of journalist
According to the Rooth (1976), the journalist is the storyteller. The journalists have more important cultural function to perform in their role as a storyteller. The storyteller makes sense of the world, they organizes phenomenon into scenarios, which imply that they are reasons for what was happened.
Combs (1976) said that, through out the history the storytellers have sustained the bond between humankind and the natural environment or cosmos.  The Journalists  is a person with full of  discipline of collecting, verifying, reporting and analyzing information gathered regarding current events, including trends, issues and people. Those who practice journalism are known as journalists.
Journalist is sometimes called the person of first draft of history. Even though news articles are often written on deadline, they are usually edited and proofread before being published. Journalists' interaction with sources sometimes involves confidentiality. Many Western governments guarantee the freedom of the press. By extension, these freedoms sometimes also add legal protection for journalists, allowing them to keep the identity of a source private even when demanded by the police.
The main activity of journalism is the reporting of events by stating who, what, when, where, why and how and explaining the significance and impact of the event or trend. Journalism exists in a number of media newspapers, television, radio, magazines and the internet as a newcomer. Generally, a distinction is drawn between reporting which is just the facts and opinions such as editorials, the official opinions of the paper and op-ed columns opposite the editorial page commentary.
However, this distinction is sometimes difficult to make. Journalists may unintentionally fall prey to propaganda or disinformation and they may give a biased account of facts by being selective in their reporting, for instance focusing on anecdote or giving partial explanation of actions. Foreign reporting may be more susceptible, because few people can and do check such reports.
Journalists report and write on a wide variety of subjects such as politics on the international, current affairs, general news, national, crime, social problems, provincial and local levels, economics and business on the same four levels, health and medicine, education, sports, hobbies and recreation, lifestyles, clothing, food, pets, and relationships. Through all the news that the journalists will cover, it will conveys the responsibility of the journalists to report what they see, hear and experienced and tell it to the community and perhaps the whole world depends to the proximity. This kind of matter has to deal with the ABC that is accuracy, balance and clarity in order to cover the news and disseminate it to the community. Journalists report on anything that news organizations think consumers will read.
Journalists can report for general interest news outlets like newspapers, news magazines and broadcast sources and general circulation specialty publications like trade and hobby magazines or for news publications and outlets with a select group of subscribers. Journalists are usually expected and required to go out to the scene of a story to gather information for their reports, and often may compose their reports in the field. They also use the telephone, the computer and the internet to gather information. However, more often those reports are written, and they are almost always edited in newsrooms, the offices where journalists and editors work together to prepare news content.
Journalists, especially if they cover a specific subject or area a beat are expected to cultivate sources, people in the subject or area, which they can communicate with, either to explain the details of a story, or to provide leads to other subjects of stories yet to be reported. They are also expected to develop their investigative skills to better research and report stories.
As Gans and Touchman (1978) claimed that, the journalism is such is symbolic environment, where institutional constraints, including competition of, division of labor, deadline and technology and influence the characters of stories of presented.
